鹿児島の冒険の初め・The Beginning of My Kagoshima Adventure

１１日から今まで、いろいろな経験があったから、少し日記を書こうと思っている。

最初は、外人の経験って話。 羽田空港から鹿児島に行く飛行機に乗った時、僕の席を見つけて、座ろうとした時に隣に座っていた日本人の男性は立って、僕を通らせてくれた。でも、出発する前に、乗務員に「ほかの席に移ってもいいですか？」と聞いて、ほかの席に移動した。ほかの外国人の欲ネットで書いている話を思い出して、「ああ、こんな ことは本当にあるんだ」と思った。日本人は外国人を怖いもののように思っているとよく書いてある。

その時、「あ、ラッキー」と思った。笑

鹿児島空港に到着した後、友達を待っていた時、お土産屋さんに行ったりした。けど、なんか変なことが起こった。何回も日本人にじろじろと見られていたことに気付いた。ほとんどの鹿児島の人は僕のような白い肌の白人を見たことがないかな。

さらに、今まで、８人の知らない人に会って、「いくつですか？」と７回聞かれた（つまり、一人だけ聞かなかった）！面白くない？名前でもなくて、国でもなくて、年に興味がありそうだね。なんでだろう？アメリカ人は年にあまり興味がないので、あまり聞かないな。

何歳ですかって聞かなかった人はたった一人だった。彼女は水族館のスタッフだった。しかし、なんか面白いことをしてくれた。僕と僕の友達の写真を撮った後、僕たちのポーズは演劇のポーズみたいだって。自分はバレーをしたことがあることで、バレーのポーズを教えてくれた。写真を見て。

From the 11th until now, I've had a few interesting experiences, so I thought I'd write about them.

The first experience is a "foreigner story". On the airplane going from Haneda to Kagoshima, I found my seat next to the window. The Japanese guy sitting in the neighboring seat got up to let me through. That's not strange, but what is strange is that before we took off, he asked a flight attendant if he could sit in another seat (there were a bunch of open seats on that flight), and then he moved. I realized that Japanese people do seem to avoid getting too close to foreigners. I've heard about it, but I didn't really think it was true until I had that experience. Anyway, it was nice to have some extra space!

After I arrived at Kagoshima airport, I went to some of the souvenir shops while waiting for my friend. However, something interesting happened. I noticed several times that people were staring at me. I suppose most people in Kagoshima haven't had a chance to see a white guy with skin as pale as mine!

On top of that, since I've been here, I've met eight strangers, and seven of them have asked me how old I was! Isn't that interesting? More than my name or where I'm from, they wanna know my age. I wonder why? Americans aren't really interesting in other how old other people are, so we don't really ask questions like that.

The one person that didn't ask how old I am was a girl working at an aquarium. When she took a picture of me and my friend, she told us that our pose was a bit like a stage performance pose. After that, she told us that she did some ballet in the past and taught my friend and I ballet poses. Check out the pictures.
