外人に慣れている人と勉強した方がいいと思うことで、探しを続いた。その教室に近いもう一つの教室を見つけた。個人とグループのレッスンがある。その教室を期待しているので、体験レッスンを来週の火曜日に予定した。
佐賀市にはヨガ教室も探している。先週の週末に、僕のアパートから１時間かかる旅で福岡の公園に行った。公園を楽しめた後、周りに散歩していた時、なんと、「Hot Yoga」の教室を見かけた！僕の好きなポッドキャスターがそういうヨガをするので嬉しかったけど、何度も見たことのある文字は出た：「女性専用」。(-_-)
ヨガ教室はいくつかあるけど、気をつけないといけない。ヨガというものは運動と精神的な部分がある。あるヨガ教室のサイトの中ではヨガ専用の用語をリストとして書いてあって、その中に「チャクラ」などのばかげた言葉が入っていた。ばかげた教室に興味がない。でも、ヨガ教室の中にそんな言葉が使われるのは仕方がない。残念ながら、ヨガ教室は女性に支配されて、女性がそんな精神的な話が好きだから。その上、そんな話をするヨガ教室はヨガの肉体的なところに真剣に集中しないので、僕に挑戦にならない気がする。ただの偏見だけなのかもしれないが、それも仕方がない。なので、ある教室に入会する前に、いろいろなヨガ教室の体験レッスンを取った方がいいと思う。
理想的に考えば、切符の費用を避けるために、ギターとヨガのレッスンを同日に取った方がいいと思うけど、できるかどうかわからない。そして、何日にレッスンを取りたいかまだ決めていない。一方、平日にとったら、水曜日がいいかも。早く仕事が終わるし。でも、土曜日の方がいいかな？それとも、翌日に仕事がないので、金曜日の方がいいかな？金曜日の夜にクラスメートと一緒に遊びやすくなるかも。
とりあえず、来週の体験レッスンはうまくいったら、ギターと色々な用品を買うことになる。それらの詳細をこの２、３日間に調べていたが、学校からもアドバイスをもらう。すでにドラゴンフォースの「スルー・ザ・ファイア・アンド・ザ・フレームズ」という曲を弾いている僕を想像している。笑

Over the past few weeks, I’ve been researching yoga and guitar classes. The first guitar class in Saga city that I found is okay, but I’m not sure if I want to take that class. When I went to visit the shop where the classes are held, I entered and immediately approached a man and someone I presume is his mother, and told them I was interested in classes. As soon as I said that, they looked at each other and stood silent for a moment. They were like a deer in the headlights. lol They probably didn’t expect a white guy to ask for guitar classes from them that day.
I thought it might be better for me to take classes with someone that is comfortable around non-Japanese, so I continued my search. I found another school near the previous one. They have group and private lessons. I have a good feeling about that school, so I scheduled a trial lesson for Tuesday next week.
I’ve also been looking at yoga classes in Saga. Last weekend, I took a trip to a large park in Fukuoka, which is about an hour from Saga by train. After enjoying the park, I took a walk around the area and found a “hot yoga” place. I was excited to see it, since a podcaster I listen to says that he does hot yoga, but then I saw two words that are all too common in Japan: Women Only. (-_-)
There are a number of classes available in Saga, but when it comes to yoga, you have to be careful. Yoga is part exercise, part “spirituality”. The websites of some yoga schools list some yoga jargon, including the word “chakra” and other new-age mumbo-jumbo crap that I’m not interested in. The unfortunate reality is that yoga is dominated by women, and women love that kind of stuff. On top of that, my feeling is that schools that are into the spiritual side of yoga are less serious about the physical side, and thus will not give me a serious physical challenge. That may just be an unfounded bias, but I still believe it. So, I will probably need to take some trial lessons at several different schools before I commit to any one school.
Ideally, I would take the classes on the same day to avoid paying too much for train tickets, but that may not be an option. I’m not sure what day of the week I’d like to take the classes. On the one hand, if I took them on a weekday, Wednesday would be the best day since I get off work early on Wednesdays. But, maybe it would be better to take them on Saturday instead? Maybe Friday would be better, since I wouldn’t have to worry about going to work the next day? It might also be easier to hang out with classmates after Friday evening lessons.
Anyway, if everything goes well with the trial guitar lesson next week, then I’ll be buying a guitar and all the necessary equipment soon. I’ve been researching those details for the last couple of days, but I think I’ll get some help from the school I go to as well. I’m already imagining myself playing Dragonforce’s Through the Fire and the Flames. lol
