バツイチ・Batsuichi

最近、日本人の友だちと人間関係について話していた時、彼女は僕に「バツイチ」という表現を教えてくれた。説明は面白かったから、覚えやすかった。

バツイチでは離婚した人を呼ばれるけど、それだけではない。昨日の夜、他の使い方を発見した！二日前、マイクロソフトの「エックスボックスワン」というゲーム機は発表された。でも、その発表正式を見ていたゲームをする人たちはすごくがっかりしたので、エックスボックスワンは日本人に「バツイチ」というニックネームが付けられた。「Xbox One」「X」と「One」は「バツイチ」になってしまった。

僕はエックスボックスを持っていないけど、なぜゲーマーはバツイチが嫌いなのかわかると思う。この日記の読者を面倒かけずに、なぜ嫌がっている細部について書かないけど、僕の意見といえば、今、ゲーマーはバツイチが嫌がったって、結局Xbox Oneは大人気になるはずだ。今、怒っている人が多いのに違いないけど、その人達はXbox Oneに向かっている人ではない。人の好きなことによって、Xbox Oneは「バツイチ」か、いいゲーム機ということは決まるだろう。人はそれぞれいるでしょう。ネットの人は強い意見を表現しがちだね（前の日記のコメントはその事実の証拠に見えるね）。だから、今の状況を見たら、バツイチはやっぱりダメだと思うかもしれないけど、バツイチを買う人はまだ多いと僕は思う。

何度こんなくだらない騒ぎを聞いたことか。新世代ゲーム機戦争は面倒だね。まあいいか、バツイチは失敗しようものなら、任天堂にいいことだから、僕は気にしないね　笑

Recently, when I was talking to a Japanese friend about human relationships, she taught me the expression "batsuichi". It is used to describe someone that has been divorced[1]. Her description was interesting, so it was easy to remember.

Batsuichi can be used to describe someone that has been divorced, but that's not all. Last night, I discovered another use for the expression. Two days ago, Microsoft announced their new video game console named the Xbox One. However, the people who were watching it and like to play games were less than impressed by the One, including Japanese. Thus, Japanese gamers bestowed the nickname Batsuichi upon the Xbox One. I'm sure you can see why.

I don't own an Xbox, but I can understand why people dislike the One. I won't trouble the reader with the details, but in my opinion, even if gamers hate the Batsuichi right now, in the end it will be a success. Now doubt there's a lot of angry people, but they aren't the people that the One is targeted at. Depending on what a person likes, the One could be seen as a "batsuichi" or a good game console. Everybody is different. People on the internet have a habit of expressing overly strong opinions. That's why if you look at the current situation, you might think it's over for the Xbox One, but I think there will be plenty of people that will buy it.

I don't know how many times I've witnessed this kind of stupid reaction. Console wars are a pain in my butt. Anyway, even if the Batsuichi somehow fails, it'll be good for Nintendo, so I don't care what happens!

[1] ("X" is used to make marks for incorrect answers on tests, and is called "batsu". Ichi is how you say "one" in Japanese. It thus describes someone that has one mark against them, in this case the fact that they have had a divorce)
